Food Backpack Program
We support a number of Rieke families by providing non-perishable food items in backpacks for the children to take home with them every Friday afternoon.
Rieke is the only Portland public school offering a backpack program based on donations from our families for our families. We are very proud of the generous support of people like you!
There is a trolley cart outside the office for the food donations. Please help us! We have some items remaining from the 2016 Spring Grade by Grade food drive, but are in need of additional donations (High need ideas are marked). We will again be doing a Grade by Grade food drive with the help our Student leaders. We will also be doing a Holiday Food Drive in December so we can give our families extra food for Winter Break.
There are many ways to donate—either bring food in and put it in the cart or make a check payable to Rieke PTA and designate “backpack program” on the note line or donate gift cards in an envelope marked “backpack program.” These monetary donations allow us to fill in where we have donation gaps and are very helpful! Please drop them off at the office.
The following items are needed on a ongoing basis:
- Mac & cheese
- Canned tuna
- Canned chicken
- Pasta sauce (IN HIGH NEED)
- Instant oatmeal (IN HIGH NEED)
- Canned Beans
- Chili/Spaghetti Os
- Bisquick/Pancake mix (IN HIGH NEED)
