The PPS District-wide Boundary Review Advisory Committee (DBRAC) just put forth a proposal that sends many of our neighborhood kids to Hayhurst instead of Rieke. They amended their original proposals after significant push back from other schools. They had months to organize an effective response, but we have only a short time before they are done with the review process.
A Rieke parents meeting will be held at Casa Colima on Tuesday, January 12 at 6:30. Please come - we need to organize an effort to prevent breaking up our neighborhood!
The meeting this Tuesday is to prepare for our public meeting in front of the DBRAC committee this Thursday (Jan 14). As much as we need everyone tomorrow we need even more on Thursday. It's all about showing up in numbers.
So come down to Casa Colima Tuesday evening and get a free "We WALK for RIEKE" T-shirt and help support our community.
Thursday's (Jan 14) meeting is at the Blanchard Education Service Center (BESC) foyer at 5:45 but please show up early and carpool!

We also have another meeting there on Jan 20th, same time, same place. We will know more after this Thursday about the next meeting.
A Facebook page has been established for communications - please join and stay in the loop.
You can download a PDF map of the proposed changes. The scenario would send a large number of Rieke kids to Hayhurst and runs counter to the concept of a neighborhood school. So, instead of walking or biking to school, they would have to be driven or ride the bus.
Even if you are not directly affected by the proposed change, you should attend and join the effort because this is a neighborhood and community issue.
