The Rieke PTA is organizing the Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) program at Rieke Elementary School again this year.
To participate, Rieke 3rd - 5th graders form teams of four students and possibly one alternate. Each team is responsible for reading 16 designated OBOB books and competing against other teams by answering questions about those books. Participation is voluntary and the students can form teams with students from any grade. They are not allowed to form a team with another school.
Each team requires a parent coach. With the support of parent coaches and parent volunteers, the Rieke PTA will organize the battles and run the tournament, provide access to books and available practice questions, and offer support to the teams. With enough parent support, we would also like to host lunch time battle practice at school.
The team that wins the final tournament battle will go on to represent Rieke at the OBOB Regionals Competition. Winners from Regionals go on to the OBOB State Competition.
You will need to give permission for your student to participate in a Rieke team by completing the team sign-up sheet and permission form. Completed forms must be turned into the Rieke Office by Wednesday, November 29th.
The Brochure provides more detailed information. There is also a mandatory information meeting for parents and students on Monday, November 13th at 6:30 in the Rieke Library.
