Principal's Message—Jan 16

Dear Rieke Families,

I hope the 3 day weekend was enjoyable.

We are closing in on the final weeks of the first half of the school year. First semester ends on Jan. 26. We will be recognizing students who had perfect attendance through last week at our perseverance spirit assembly tomorrow morning.

Our Right Brain residencies have started well. Our artist Nikki is experienced and has gotten the students’ interest. She will be doing four more sessions with each class.

We have several events taking place this month and next. PTA is having their first meeting of the new year tonight. Tomorrow night our own technology expert Jani Colasurdo is offering an Evening of Code . She has been teaching all grades computer coding basics and have some fun and challenging activities planned for parents to do with your child. It is from 5:30-7 pm, please join us!

We have begun to get the word out for Kindergarten for next year. If you know of a family with a student turning 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 who lives in the Rieke attendance area please let them know about our Connect to K event on Thursday, Feb. 8. It is 6:30-8 pm and intended to provide information to parents about kindergarten and our program here at Rieke.

Our annual Science Fair is Feb. 15. We will have demonstrations, student projects, and it is a fun event for the whole family.  Thank you to Katie Unflat for organizing this big event.

We will also soon start the staffing process for the 2018-19 school year. Funding will be a challenge for the district (what is new many of you may ask!) but I will do my best to keep all the critical pieces in place that provide a rich learning environment for our students. I will keep you posted as the I get more information and when decisions have to be made.

Have a good week,
