Everyone Is Welcome

Teachers and parents are invited to a monthly discussion focused on race and equity. We will come together as a community to discuss how to create a more equitable environment, and to learn how to act as allies. The first meeting is on Thursday, October 4th in the Rieke library from 6:30-8:00 pm. Forthcoming meetings will take place on the first Thursday of every month. Please email Mr. Swehla at eswehla@pps.net with any questions.

The PTA Clothing Center Needs Our Help

Monday October 8th is Rieke's day to send volunteers to the PTA Clothing Center. Located at Marshall (which is currently housing Grant High School), the clothing center offers age-appropriate clothing to kids that need them. By caring for the basic needs of our youth and allowing them to dress as their peers, the clothing center encourages positive self-esteem, academic success, and regular class attendance. This year an average of 50 students per day are accessing the closet.

  • Who: We need six volunteers.

  • When: Monday, October 8th from 9:30-1:30

  • Where: 3905 SE 91st Avenue, Room B-60

Volunteers should check in and out of the main office. Learn more about this important organization here

Join the Rieke Green Team!

Five years ago, Rieke was the first school awarded the Eco Flag in the entire state of Oregon. Although accomplishing this was an amazing feat, we have to constantly work towards being even more green. That’s exactly what the Green Team does.

Are you or your student interested in taking part? The first meeting is on Wednesday, October 3rd. We’ll meet in Room 11 from 3-4 pm. If you can’t attend this meeting but are interested in joining the team, email jenn.poulsen@gmail.com. Subsequent meetings are scheduled for the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month.
