Today is the first day of our Right Brain art residency. Rieke has been participating in the Right Brain project for the past three years and PPS has been part of the Right Brain since it began back in the mid 2000’s. The goal of the residency is to use an artist expression integrated into an academic area, such as writing, social studies, math, etc., that through the creative thinking it fosters students’ ability to problem solve, innovate, and think critically. Our artist is Aaron Nigel Smith and he will be doing four 45-minute sessions with each class beginning this week and going through mid-January. Grades K-2 will be using bells and Aaron’s guitars and grades 3-5 will be using African drumming.

For families of students in grades 3-5 who want to participate in this year’s Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) team sign up forms are due this week. Students need to be part of a 4-person team. If your child is not yet part of a team and he or she would like to participate please have your child talk with Ms. Vaughan, our media specialist who can hopefully direct them towards an open spot on a team.
Please be sure to send your child with a warm winter coat this week and next. The students spend time every day outside even when the temperature is in the low 40’s, plus with the wind chill predicted later this week, it may feel even colder.
