Principal's Message, February 25

Congratulations to every single 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader who participated (or was part of a team) at Saturday’s Oregon Battle of the Books tournament! I am so impressed with how much our students knew, along with how wonderfully they demonstrated such great sportsmanship. Hats off, as well, to their coaches and parents for supporting them through this. We have eight teams in our final competition this coming Wednesday evening and the winner of that will represent Rieke at the Regional championship happening next month. It’s great that our top eight teams represent students from all three grade levels. Thank you Andra Carrick for your hard work in getting everything organized so that our students could have this opportunity.

The window for completing the Portland Public Schools’ Successful Schools survey has been extended until March 8th. We would love to hear from as many members of our community as possible. Use this link to give your input:

Last Thursday’s Science Fair was a great success! Congratulations to all of our budding scientists from Kindergarten through 5th grade who submitted projects. A big thank you to Katie Unflat for organizing this event for the past twelve years!!!! Thank you, too, to the many volunteers who helped judge the projects as well as helped students make oobleck and explore the sand geography table.

Our amazing first graders collected 320 pounds of food that will be handed out to Rieke families through our backpack program. Way to go!!!

We have run very short of spare clothes. If you happen to be going through closets and are finding clothes that no longer fit anyone in your household, especially boys’ pants, we could use them. We could also use hats and gloves that we give out to students who are without.

Have a good rest of the week and hopefully the weather will start settling down and not teasing us with threats of snow.
