The Rieke Foundation

The Rieke Foundation and all School foundations support PPS’s innovative budgeting model, the Racial Equity and Social Justice (RESJ) program, which provides underperforming schools more funding to help improve student outcomes. Under the RESJ model, schools with the highest numbers of historically underserved, and low socio-economic students, receive the most funding per student. While we support the RESJ funding model, we recognize it creates gaps in staffing at schools like Rieke. Parent volunteers receive a goal from Principal Jeans and fundraise to help him staff the school.

Local School Foundations are affiliated with The Fund for Portland Public Schools, a nonprofit organization that provides funds to schools directly supporting teachers and staff. The Fund manages our accounting and administration, event insurance, tax documentation, donor stewardship and more. Like all Local School Foundations, the Rieke Foundation contributes 1/3 of all funds raised after the first $10,000 to be redistributed to PPS schools in the form of PPS Parent Fund grants. As an equity-focused school, we are thrilled that the generosity of Rieke families and our community will help schools in need across Portland.

How Do We Raise Funds?

2024 Rieke Auction

The Spring Auction has historically been the largest individual fundraising event for the school. The evening includes appetizers, drinks, dinner & dessert plus bidding on classroom art projects, a wine wall and a silent and live auction.

Next year’s auction will be Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Mittleman Jewish Community Center. Don’t miss it! Principal Jeans’s band, will play at an after party across the street at the Cider Mill.

Your support of the 2023 Rieke Auction helped raise almost $95,000 to help hire teachers and staff for Rieke! Let’s keep the Rieke tradition of generosity alive in 2024.

Join the Fun - Join the Committee!

There are many ways to give your time and talent to Rieke:

  • Join the Foundation Leadership Team:

    • Members at Large: help with specific events and projects. May include Rieke Foundation website creation, classroom/grade collaboration and more

  • Join the Auction Procurement Committee - We always need help securing live and silent auctions. This includes asking companies for donations, picking up said donations, helping track them in our auction software and preparing them for the auction. Any and all help with this is needed.

  • Get your employer to match your donation and/or donate through your employee giving campaign! Many companies provide the opportunity to direct funds to nonprofit organizations - The Rieke Foundation qualifies.

The Rieke Foundation is led by Donna Ingram. Donna has 20 years of fundraising and nonprofit leadership experience, and three sons at Rieke: Sterling (4rd), Wolfie and Dash (3nd).

The committee meets monthly (drinks and snacks included) with a bulk of the time commitment in September and Spring. Average monthly commitment is estimated to be 2-5 hours.
